I did not buy this item at Amazon, but it was gifted to me by a friend thru Amazon. The purpose was protection from allergens, as I have persistent high-grade allergies to practically everything in my neighborhood. This is despite intensive treatment by a thorough allergist. It is pricey but can be custom adjusted to work with many size heads. This is like buying a Bentley when your need is basic transportation. But there is no question that it works to filter the air extremely well. I can literally be outside for hours with no problem, when I would previously had a limit of half an hour before I felt like I was hit with tear gas.There are a few important points to know:-First it covers the eyes as well as nose and mouth, so eye allergen exposure is basically zero.-It also is non-rebreathing, meaning you do not feel out-of-breath as easily with strenuous work because of carbon dioxide buildup as with most N95 masks.-This also keeps glasses from fogging up as only fresh filtered air passes your eye area. The inside of the mask does not fog at all.-And, there is almost no extra effort in breathing as the surface area of the filters you can buy is larger than a standard N95 mask. I notice no breathing distress at all with yard work.-This does not come with the filters, so you need to decide what to buy to attach. There are a few choices and you need to read up on them to decide what to use. I notice there are no standard N95 filters and instead use P100. There are filters for organic solvents and other hazards which tells me this mask is made for high risk industries.The reason for removing a star is that the tight fit around the face makes wearing eyeglasses difficult. The other lesser issue is that I look like a lunatic when I barbecue or take the trash out. But without question I can function outdoors without paying dearly for it.
